Editing Custom Data Elements

Overview

Data elements in the Data Mapping & Risk Manager (DMRM) represent the individual types of personal data your organization collects and processes. After creating a data element, you can update its name, category, and risk level at any time to reflect changes in how that data is used or classified.

This article explains how to edit an existing data element in DMRM.

What you can do
Rename an existing data element
Reassign the data element to a different category, or create a new one
Update the risk level to reflect changes in regulatory sensitivity
Editing a Data Element

To edit an existing data element, follow these steps:

In the left navigation panel, hover over the Data Mapping & Risk Manager icon, and then navigate to Settings > Data Elements.

To the right of the data element record you want to edit, click the context menu icon, and then select Edit.

Update any of the following fields, and then click Update.

Name — Enter a new name for the data element.
Category — Select a different category from the dropdown list, or select Create new to add a new category.
Risk Level — Select a new risk level to reflect the updated classification of the data element.
📋 Note: Changes take effect immediately after you click Update. The updated data element is reflected across all areas of Data Mapping & Risk Manager where it is in use.
